Lola RephannWho did you study with? Paula Tursi, Troy Myers and Aiko Nakasone, Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center – New York. I also studied martial arts for about ten years, in the styles of HapKiDo, mixed martial arts, and Shaolin Kung-Fu. How long have you been teaching? I started teaching in May 2010, after completing my teacher training with Paula at Reflections Yoga. What other jobs have you had? I always seem to have at least three jobs at any given time. I am also a webmaster, DJ, and label owner, and I recently started making my own music. One day I would like to start my own business doing web consulting services for health and wellness organizations, musicians, artists, whoever needs me! I have at other times in my life been employed as a researcher, writer, editor, aerobics instructor, bartender, make-up artist, nightclub security, and cat-sitter. Favorite place that you have traveled to? Playa del Carmen, Mexico or Cuzco, Peru List 3 words your students would use to describe your classes: Introspective, empowering, grounding. How does your own practice influence your daily life? I think my daily life has become my practice, or is it the other way around? Yoga is constantly informing my life, reminding me to be with what is, to detatch from the dance of duality and find the deeper truth within. It is not always an easy journey, but I think I have one of those park benches with my name on it along the way! Favorite asana? It varies, but Uttanasana always feel sooooo good. Who is a teacher who inspires you? I am constantly inspired by Paula Tursi. Other teachers that inspire me are Shiva Rea, Frank Mauro, and Elsie Escobar from her awesome Elsie’s Yoga Kula podcasts. I am also inspired by the everyday teachers I run into on the path of life… A great yoga class makes you feel… At peace, receptive, and spacious. |
