Inversions are everywhere in our practice, from downward-facing dog to forward fold, legs up the wall, and even happy baby. Any pose where the hips or legs and feet are above the heart COUNTS.
But headstands, handstands, shoulder and forearm stands…well, stand out.
They’re the stuff of Instagram. They’re for advanced yogis, for athletes, for the strong and the fearless, the slim, the young, the well, and the whole, right?
What stops us? I’m too big, I’m too old, I’m injured, I’m not strong enough, I have terrible balance. I’m going to fall, I’m going to fail; I’m going to get hurt.
Inversions belong in our lives, not Instagram. We’ll talk about the benefits, like improved circulation and mood. With compassion and attention and humor and props, we’ll move, prepare, explore, and invert.
We’ll stand fear on its head! This is inversions for people who don’t think inversions are for them.
