When there is clarity in purpose there is strength in action. When they join forces, we can be empowered to design a life of meaning and be the innovators and leaders we were meant to be. – Paula Tursi

We can only meet people in our power, if we can embody that power. When we are not clear about our purpose, we can often feel frightened, frustrated and even depressed. In this course we will work together to help find our true voice, our hidden nature.

Have you ever longed to know your true purpose and how to put that out in the world in a bold way? This course will marry the psychology of yoga with your daily life, in theory and in practice. We will look into your shadows to find what is stopping you from moving forward and owning your life’s purpose. Each week you will take both spiritual and physical actions to create an alignment between inner purpose and outer actions. By the end of the 8 weeks you will have a comprehensive plan of action to take you to the next step on your life’s path that will align with your soul’s desire.

This 25-hour course is part of the (CORE) requirements for any of the 300-hour tracks of Advanced Yoga Teacher Training. Teaching  yoga for beginners is becoming a highly-sought after skill. As yoga becomes more popular and gains recognition in the media and the medical field, more and more people are coming to class and hiring private instructors for a variety of reasons. Open level classes are intimidating and risky for beginners, as students may have little to no knowledge of how to use their body. Frankly, basic classes are just not that basic. Where can a student go to gain clear and safe understanding of how an asana is meant to be done?

Working one-on-one and being able to see what a student is missing–and how to bring a pose together–requires a lot of skill. Teaching the basics requires you to have a solid understanding of how the body moves, as well as the elements of each asana, so you can teach it in components as well as in entirety. Teaching your students the basics from a well-thought out and experienced perspective gives them a safe and encouraging point of entry.

“Though you may need to be flexible to teach an advanced class, you must know the body and how it moves to teach the building blocks of yoga.” ~ Paula Tursi

What’s Involved:

  • 3 days of class time.
  • Home work.
  • Conduct an online class taught and observed by the group.
  • 2 or 3 teleclasses as follow up.

In this advanced and comprehensive course, you will learn:

  • The building blocks of 10 of the most important asanas.
  • How to teach simple and informative anatomical principles.
  • The anatomy of breath.
  • How to use props and how to teach your students to use them.
  • 10 of the most useful pose adjustments.
  • How to introduce meditation to beginners.
  • The art of seeing –you will practice seeing where a student is moving from and how to redirect.
  • Private client protocol and how to conduct private sessions.
  • How to troubleshoot the effects of people’s expectations.

“When we know who we are and where we are going, we can live a life of meaning. It is only then we can be the leaders we were meant to be. This course will help you gain this clarity!” ~ Paula Tursi

As spiritual beings, we can’t meet anyone in our power if we can’t define that power. When we are not clear about our purpose, we can often feel frightened, frustrated and even depressed.  In this course we will work together to help find our true voice, our hidden nature. Once we find our “blueprint for life”  -what the Yoga Sutras referred  to as our Dharma- we will begin to bring it into the flow and meaning of our lives . Once we begin to live in alignment with who we really are (not who we think we should be) we often find or sustain clear and healthy relationships with our students, friends, family, and our beloved.

Whether you are a community leader, yoga teacher, parent or CEO, you need to feel confidant in what you do. We all long to know what our true purpose is and how to put that out in the world in a bold and powerful way. This course will marry the psychology of yoga with your daily life practice in a real and practical way. Each week you will have both spiritual and physical actions to take to create an alignment with both your inner purpose and your outer actions. By the end of the 10 weeks you will have a comprehensive plan of action to take you to the next step on your life’s path that will align with your soul’s desire. James Hillman, a well published Jungian psychologist, calls this purpose our Daemon. Hillman states that “the daemon accompanies us from birth, bringing with it an agenda which influences our subsequent life.”

This 25-hour course is part of the (CORE) requirements for any of the 300-hour tracks. At the base of either track (Western or Eastern) is the deepening of your spiritual practice.

*Open to all with a sincere interest in developing your spiritual practice and understanding of self.

85 Hours: Yoga Anatomy

Yoga Anatomy Text Book ImageReflections Yoga is pleased to offer our 300-hour Teacher Training students and alumni an opportunity to take the YogaAnatomy.net Principles On-Line Course with Leslie Kaminoff for a special discount. This is the exact course that Paula chose when she wanted to upgrade her own skill-set around yoga anatomy years ago.

Leslie Kaminoff, co-author of the #1 best-selling yoga book “Yoga Anatomy,” is a world-renowned Yoga Educator with over 35 years of experience in bringing the study of anatomy to life. Kaminoff’s YogaAnatomy.net Principles Course has helped teachers and practitioners from yoga, dance, pilates, and somatic therapy backgrounds improve their teaching, enhance their personal practices, and provide better experiences for their students and clients.

Previously available only to students live at his studio, The Breathing Project in New York City, you can now enroll in the course online. As a graduate of this course, you will enhance your teaching, protect your students, and deepen your personal practice with a comprehensive understanding of how the human body actually works.

Leslie Kaminoff’s teaching is inspired by his studies with T.K.V. Desikachar, T. Krishnamacharya’s son. How you’ll learn in this course… The three twelve-week trimesters cover the essentials of Yoga Anatomy from the perspective of the breath, the spine, and the limbs. The core concepts of yoga: Prana/Apana, Sthira/Sukha, Brmhana/Langhana serve as a lens through which the vast subject of anatomy becomes focused, fascinating and immensely practical.

Because the course focuses on grasping fundamental concepts, rather than memorizing endless details, students can easily embody the material and put it to practical use immediately. In addition, there is a high level of student interactivity through questions, demonstrations and homework assignments.

Build an Encyclopedic Knowledge of Yoga Anatomy in Three Trimesters:

  • We offer full support, personalized homework interactions, and access to a like-minded community as you work your way through the material
  • This course is offered entirely online, but if you decide to print out all the documents and save hard copies of the videos, this is what your resource collection will look like: We will send you links to download binder covers, inserts, and the foundation of your library. You’ll fill it out with class notes, observations, downloadable class transcripts, and reminders of your own journey. (You will receive all materials in digital, not hard copy.)

Frequently asked questions:

“Is there a timeline for the course?” There is no fixed timeline or deadline for the course. You can sign up whenever you want, watch the classes as it works for your schedule, ask Leslie questions and get answers on your own time, and finish the homework whenever it fits in your schedule. We wanted this course to be as flexible as possible because we have so many students enrolled from all over the world, and there’s really not a one-size-fits-all structure.

“How much homework is there? What kind of weekly time commitment am I looking at?” As discussed above, you can go through the course at your own pace. If you’d like to finish the course in the 9-month time frame that Leslie uses to teach the live class, here’s what it would look like: – One 2-hour video class per week – plus optional homework, consisting mostly of review questions and additional activities to help enhance the learning experience. Most of our graduates say the homework took them 30-60 minutes per week. The classes are structured in three 12-week trimesters for a total of 36 weeks, and there is a short break between each trimester (like a holiday break and spring break.)

“Sometimes things get “lost in translation” on the internet. How do you guys handle that?” We agree! That’s why we have made the interface as personal as possible, and we have just added a new feature for this round of the course. Leslie is now offering Video Q&A so he can give his online students the same level of demonstration-based feedback that you’d receive if you were in the room.
